Post 18 & UCAS Applications

At High Storrs there is extensive support for students to help them prepare for life after Sixth Form. We support students when they are considering their future careers and Post 18 options. In addition to the experienced Sixth Form team, the school provides independent careers advices and guidance from Sheffield Futures.

We work hard to ensure that all students feel prepared for life after Sixth Form by discussing all of their Post 18 options with them. For the vast majority of students this will be university, but we place equal value on other Post 18 pathways, including apprenticeships, a year in industry, full time employment, foundation college courses and gap years.

The Sixth Form Team work closely with all students to support them through the lengthy process of making university, apprenticeship and job applications, with form tutors helping in the research and decision-making process. We cover much of our Post 18 work in Tutorial sessions, with additional activities in registrations and as enrichment in study periods.

HIGH STORRS ALUMNI – UCAS AND OTHER POST 18 APPLICATIONS

Throughout Sixth Form we support students with their Post 18 applications. This involves a lot of work on both the student side (support with choices, the application form, drafting and editing a personal statement) and the school side (checking applications carefully, predicted grades, subject and overall references).

We have experienced increasing numbers of ex-students request support with their UCAS and other Post 18 applications after they have left High Storrs. We really want to help our alumni, but the workload for this is now not manageable.

If students let us know formally in the summer term of Y13 that they will be making applications the following year (in a gap year) we will ensure we have everything ready for their application before the end of the academic year that they are still a student on roll with us.

If an ex-student contacts us after they have left High Storrs to request application support and/or a reference for Post 18 applications, we will provide this help but will need to charge an administration fee. This is to cover staff overtime to complete this work.

Alumni wishing to apply for a Post 18 destination through High Storrs should complete the following steps:

  1. Contact sixthform@highstorrs-mlt.co.uk to inform us of their plans. Please provide contact details (including telephone number)
  2. Pay the amount via our ParentPay Shop - scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will find 'UCAS Applications'.

Following these actions, a member of the Sixth Form Team will be in touch with detailed information about the application process.

We provide clear steps and guidance to enable applications to be completed fully and accurately. Please be aware that failure to follow this guidance may result in more administration time being needed to follow up and correct errors. This will incur an additional fee.

Please be aware that if we have not had any contact with an ex-student for a significant period of time, it may not be appropriate for us to provide a reference as we will be unable to make relevant and up-to-date comments on the individual.
