High Storrs Sixth Form: looking forward

Laura Mason

It’s the exciting time of year when we look ahead to our next intake of Sixth Formers.

This year we have had a record number of applications from impressive Year 11s across the city (and beyond!) who want to join High Storrs Sixth Form. We’ve really enjoyed reading these applications and, following the Sheffield Progress application deadline on 31st January, are delighted to start making formal offers to the High Storrs Class of 2022!

Whilst this seems like a long time away, we know that time study A Levels and BTECs flies, so we make the most of every moment: to us, the journey starts here.

Indeed, our applicants are already more than just a name on an application form to us. We are proud to maintain great communication with our future students up to and including their formal enrolment on GCSE Results Day.

Importantly, we want them to feel they can get in touch if their situation changes. For instance, we always do our best to support requests to change subjects (class size and timetable specific). Occasionally we aren’t able to run courses due to forecasted class size or staffing; unfortunately that this does happen in all Sixth Forms, but we work to communicate such decisions swiftly and sensitively – and support resultant decisions.

There will also be additional communications from some of our current students, eager to welcome their new peers.

One of the most important events between now and September are our Applicant Days on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th June. These are such a valuable pre-experience of Sixth Form, with a combination of subject taster lessons, time spent with new form tutor, careers sessions, meeting our amazing student Head Team, plus much more. Staff and current students work hard to ensure these days are always a huge success!

And then September will be here before we know it and our Class of 2022 will formally begin their academic journeys, hopefully feeling very much part of our community already.

They will also be confident that they will absolutely achieve their best at High Storrs, both in their exams and beyond. Results wise, High Storrs are one of the highest Sixth Form performers in the city, with one of the largest cohorts. Our inclusivity means that our students make great progress from all starting points. Our Class of 2022 will also benefit from our specialist careers support, a dedicated student support team, committed student council and a plethora of extra-curricular offers.

Until then, we wish our future students the very best for their final months in Year 11. These will probably be tough, will definitely be tiring, but will certainly be rewarding!
