Music at High Storrs

Joan Spencer

We really enjoyed working with some of the Year 5 and 6 pupils from Greystones and Hunters Bar Primary Schools who joined us on Wednesday for an afternoon of music making. We hope that this workshop will become an annual event in our calendar enabling pupils from our feeder primary schools to come along and experience playing a musical instrument alongside our own musicians at High Storrs. A big thank you to Mark Hinds and Emma Prince for their organization and support, as well as three of our music instrumental teachers from Sheffield Music Hub; Dan Johnson - drums, Travis Finch - guitar and Rachel Ward - Flute. The young people worked on two numbers; Trepak by Tcahikovsky from the Nutcracker Suite and La Bamba which was used as a Finale with all three groups, orchestra, Drums and Guitars, joining together.

Despite the reception staff being subjected to loud Samba drumming all afternoon, the event was a great success with our guests making friends with High Storrs students and having a taster of what's on offer if they decide to come here when making their Secondary School choices.

A number of parent's popped in for the concert. The contact now continues, with visits to these schools and Ecclesall Primary in the lead up to the Bents Green Community School's Carol Concert where pupils will form a massed choir with High Storrs and Silverdale at All Saints Parish Church on Thursday 14th December at 6.30 pm.
