Y6 Open Evening - A Warm Welcome on an October Evening
On Wednesday 4th October 2017 we flung open our doors and welcomed thousands of Y5 & 6 pupils along with their families to get a real feel for what an education at High Storrs is like and to find out what it means to be part of the High Storrs family.
Many families started their tour of the school by visiting one of Claire Tasker's, Headteacher, inspiring talks in our packed Main Hall. She spoke with all the zeal and dedication that is so reflective of the High Storrs ethos and celebrated our community spirit. Prospective parents and pupils alike were wowed by the commitment, passion and enthusiasm of our teachers and our students genuine love of learning; they saw our students being great ambassadors for our school.
There were a wide range of activities and presentations across the whole school from; spooky English spells to an ancient Greek bar, a Dance extravaganza to spectacular science experiments. The Geography department showed us the ultimate in creativity with a huge assortment of cakes on a geological theme. There were incredible musical performances from our talented students who represented our many and varied extra curricular groups. The PE department were showing off their brand new facilities with loads of sporty students taking every opportunity to show their skills, whilst parents and pupils were captivated by our incredible alumni display; Kyle Walker (England and Manchester City Footballer), Nick Matthew (World Champion Squash player) and Grace Clough (Paralympic Gold Medalist for Rowing).
It was a great chance to find out all about our unique pastoral system, meeting the House mascots and being 'sorted' a la Hogwarts by on of our Heads of House.
We were thrilled by the turn out on this wild and windy evening, and look forward to welcoming these new members of our community to future events.
