To complement their A Level and Level 3 courses, students at High Storrs Sixth Form will also engage with a Student Support Programme.
Within this programme, all students will be able to opt for their preferred Year 12 course from:
Core Maths (AS Level) – completed in Year 12 as a fourth course
Academic Reading – Year 12 (non-examined)
In Year 13, all students undertake the same course:
Life Skills – Year 13 (non-examined)
Core Maths (AS Level)
Academic Reading
This provides students with both the skills and models to develop their reading and note taking skills when approaching challenging academic texts, relevant to all A Level / Level 3 subjects. The sessions provide time and space to read widely within and around students’ subjects, and to develop oracy in sharing new learning and understanding with peers. Through the Academic Reading programme, students develop their ability to read critically but thinking carefully about the arguments, assumptions and evidence presented by writers.
Life Skills
This equips students with essential competencies for life beyond school. Key modules include Employability Skills, which covers communication, teamwork, and interview preparation, and Digital Skills in the Workplace, focused on using technology effectively. Students also learn practical financial management in Budgeting and Finance and develop healthy habits through Cooking, Health and Wellbeing. This subject prepares students for both personal and professional success.
