Course Content
Throughout the two-year course students will cover:
- Physical Chemistry
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
Within these areas students will explore topics, such as: thermodynamics, rate equations, transition metals, biochemistry, polymers, aromatic chemistry and optical isomerism.

Skills and Prospects
A Level Chemistry will develop critical thinking and analytical skills with a high degree of problem-solving, as well as ‘hands-on’ skills with a high level of attention to detail. Chemistry is an essential A Level for many courses in the healthcare pathway, such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and Dentistry.
In addition to healthcare, A Level Chemistry opens doors to a wide range of careers and degree courses, including Biological Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Pharmacology, and Analytical Chemistry. It is also a popular choice among Law applicants, as it demonstrates the ability to cope with complex concepts.
Studying Chemistry at A Level not only prepares you for a variety of scientific careers but also equips you with transferable skills that are highly valued in many fields. You’ll learn to approach problems methodically, conduct experiments with precision, and communicate your findings effectively.
High Storrs Sixth Form Entry Requirements
A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 9 – 4. This must include:
• Mathematics Grade 4 AND
• English Language Grade 5 OR
• English Literature Grade 5 AND English Language Grade 4

Grade 6 in Chemistry OR Grade 6-6 in Combined Science AND Grade 6 in Maths
