AQA A Level Fine Art
Course Content
A Level Art requires students to complete a term of skills based mini projects, using a variety of techniques such as drawing, painting, colour work and mixed media; as well as sculpture, photography, and printmaking. Those interested in the use of textiles can also explore this throughout the course.
Students will develop their research and annotation skills alongside their practical art skills. Expanding their subject specific knowledge and vocabulary on art, artists, and art movements; both contemporary and traditional.
Students complete portfolio projects of their own choice as part of the A Level, their self-directed coursework project (which includes a 1000-word dissertation) carries 60% of the overall mark. The exam project in Year 13 carries the remaining 40% of the mark.

- One project with a 15-hour final piece
Both components are marked by the teaching staff and moderated by the exam board.
Skills and Prospects
Students will further develop their technical skills through the teaching of drawing, painting, printing, sculpture, and textile work. This will be informed by the areas in which they wish to explore. Creative thinking skills are at the forefront of all the work, connecting art to a range of other subjects.
Art combines well with other creative subjects such as Dance, Film Studies, Design and Technology and Theatre Studies, whilst providing a balanced education for those studying Sciences, Maths, and the Humanities.
There are specific art colleges that students can explore if they choose art as a career pathway.
Career prospects can include: Artist, Graphic Designer, Textile Designer, Fashion Designer, Set Designer, Architect, Games Designer, Illustrator, Photographer, Printmaker, Ceramicist, etc

A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 9 – 4. This must include:
• Mathematics Grade 4 AND
• English Language Grade 5 OR
• English Literature Grade 5 AND English Language Grade 4
