This next Headteacher’s Blog come from four Y7 students. Towards the end of last term we asked them to write a short account of their start at High Storrs School. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

High Storrs is AMAZING! I have so many new friends. The teachers are all so nice and it is a great place to be.
As the start of school came nearer, I kept having more and more worries about being late to class or not knowing anyone and many more. But when I walked into form for the first time, I felt confident and all my worries disappeared.
The one-way system meant that I was on time for every lesson but all the teachers were understanding if you were a bit late during the first week. The lessons are fun with the edge of difficulty. Some of the subjects I have enjoyed the most are: DT, Maths, Science, Drama and many more.
Overall, I am really glad I have the chance to go to a school so amazing as High Storrs. I feel it is the perfect place for me, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Day one
On the 3rd September, I readied myself for the next chapter in my life, learning at High Storrs. As I walked through the entrance, I was unsure how this would go: How would I find my classes? Would I make friends?
But all that changed when I entered my form room for the very first time. There I saw that everyone was so welcoming and kind here. After form time, which extra long that Tuesday, I had History with Mr Doran. History is one of my favourite subjects, so I really liked that.
In the afternoon I had RPE, which we never did in primary school, and French, which is also incredibly good. One final surprise was waiting for me that day, as I could barely get out because the corridors were so busy! Eventually I got home, wondering what the next day would bring.
The rest of my first week
The rest of the week was just as good as my first day, however I had to learn to adapt very quickly. The one-way system was a bit confusing at first, but I soon got used to it! My favourite lessons were Music and DT, where we were making keychains.
I also enjoyed Science, as we prepared to use the Bunsen burners (they were just as good as we were told!). Another new thing was having multiple pieces of homework, which we had in English, Maths and Science. My first week had taught me what it would be like to be a student in this big, new school.

I really enjoyed my first term at High Storrs. It has been great! All my teachers have been kind and helpful, so I have made lots of progress on my learning since the start of the year. In Year 7, the content that we learn is very different from primary school, but it is fascinating. All the subjects are interesting, and the lessons are fun. I have made many new friends, which makes school even more enjoyable.
I was very excited on my first day at High Storrs. I wondered how my lessons would be different, and how I would make new friends, but I soon found out that it was a lot easier that I thought. The first day was extremely fun as the lessons were very intriguing, even though I did feel a bit nervous at the beginning of the day.
Similarly, my first week went very well too. I felt very happy at High Storrs and started to feel like I had been here for so long already! Although the building is huge, I quickly become familiar with it by the end of the first week. What I really liked was that High Storrs offers so many good clubs that I could choose from. I was really happy to meet friends who share my interests, and it was super nice to do things together with them.
High Storrs is an amazing school! All the teachers are supportive and always encourage me to try my hardest and do my best. The students are selfless and always show kindness and respect. As a result, I think High Storrs is a community with a positive atmosphere and a great place where I can learn and thrive!

In the days leading up to my first day at High Storrs, millions of thoughts went through my mind. Was I going to make new friends? Were my teachers going to be nice? Will I enjoy the lessons? And, most importantly, is High Storrs going to be the right school for me?
On my first day, me and my friends walked up the hill which High Storrs is at the top of. It soon became clear that I was not the only one who has worries about starting a school that is so much bigger and different to primary school. But when I met my form tutor and people who I am in the same class as, I knew that High Storrs is the right place for me. I wasn’t wrong! Every single teacher and student is amazing and different all with really cool ideas. It is hard to leave High Storrs at 3 o’clock without a smile on your face.
