Headteacher’s Blog – Meet our new recruits, October 2026

In this next High Storrs Blog, we have a brief introduction from each of our new recruits. They have each shared a little of their history and a few nuggets of other information. We have been pleased to welcome such a talented group of people to join our High Storrs staff this school year.

Mr Chaloner – Assistant Headteacher: Director of Sixth Form

I have over ten years teaching experience, having started my career as a Psychology teacher. In my previous role, I had the exciting opportunity to establish and lead a new Sixth Form in London.
I am passionate about post 16 education and the opportunities it provides for young people at such an important stage in their lives. I look forward to bringing my experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to High Storrs School, helping all students achieve their potential.
I am delighted to be joining the High Storrs community and feel privileged to be leading such a welcoming and successful Sixth Form.

Mr Steade – Teacher of PE

I have five years of teaching experience, most recently working at Silverdale School and Mercia School in Sheffield. During this time, I have taught A Level and GCSE PE at Silverdale and BTEC Sport at Mercia. Prior to moving into teaching, I worked at Sedbergh School as a rugby coach, helping to develop young athletes both on and off the field.
I will bring strong subject knowledge, enthusiasm and a positive attitude to High Storrs. I am passionate about helping students achieve their potential and pride myself on being approachable, motivating and kind. I am also keen to provide students with a wide range of sporting opportunities through fixtures, clubs and extracurricular activities.
I am excited to be joining High Storrs School

Mr Devoe – Teacher of English

I am an ECT who has joined High Storrs after working at The Birley Academy as a Reading Specialist Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor for three years. This is my first teaching post, and I am very excited to be joining such a welcoming and inspiring team. I am bringing with me up-to-date knowledge of teaching pedagogy and am keen to continue developing my classroom practice. I am passionate and enthusiastic about fostering a positive classroom environment that promotes a culture of kindness, open dialogue, as well as a love of reading. I feel incredibly privileged to be joining such a fantastic school and look forward to working with the school and wider community.

Ms Dalton – Teacher of Sociology

I am joining the Sociology and Politics department at High Storrs. My joint honours degree is in Sociology and Psychology from Leeds University. I am a very experienced teacher having taught for 34 years in sixth form colleges and high schools. I have been a Head of Department and SEND co-ordinator in colleges. My teaching experience is teaching all ages of secondary students but mainly KS5 including A level and Vocational subjects. I have taught A level and BTEC in Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Law and Health and Social Care plus, Life and History in KS4/3. I am looking forward to teaching at High Storrs and supporting the students’ academic and personal success.

Ms Kalnars – Teacher of DT and Business

I have been teaching for 3 years at a secondary school on the other side of Sheffield. Before I left in the summer, I was a Y9 form tutor and acting Head of Department and enjoyed creating interesting and cohesive curriculum and supporting students to do their best despite the challenges they faced. I want to share my supportive teaching style with HSS students and hope to foster a love of my subjects in them as I really believe they help to build a better understanding of the world.
One of my teaching placements was at High Storrs in 2023 and I thought it was a wonderful place which saw students as individuals, so when I saw the vacancy, I had to apply! I am happy to be back here and am excited to meet my Y12 form and my classes.

Mrs Cooke – Admin Team Leader

I have just over 25 years’ experience of working within a school environment. 22 years at Netherthorpe School undertaking various roles (Attendance Officer, Office Manager and finally Exams and Data Manager), followed by 2 years at Brunts Academy where I was Office Manager/ PA to the Principal. Since leaving the Brunts Academy (Nottinghamshire) in 2025, I have worked in various schools in Derbyshire, more recently as Exams and Assessment office at Hasland Hall.
I have a wealth of experience and knowledge within schools and hope that this will contribute greatly to the existing team in which I work.
I feel very enthusiastic about the new role; I have already realised the enormity of the role ahead and look forward to challenging myself and hopefully doing a great job!

Mr Hazlewood – Teacher of Geography

I have been teaching Geography and History since 2013. I started my career in sunny Bedfordshire before spending nearly 5 years teaching in Venezuela. Since COVID I have taught in a few schools across Sheffield including a year in Mexico City.
I will bring my lived subject knowledge into the classroom and endeavour to ensure that my lessons contain engaging and relevant content.
I am excited to join HSS after hearing great things about the school and cannot wait to get to know my new students in September:)

Ms Baldwin – Student Receptionist & Welfare Officer

A big ‘hello’ to the HSS community! I have recently been welcomed into my new role as Student receptionist and Medical support at High Storrs School.
Previously I worked at a specialist secondary school providing support for young people with Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. Supporting complex physical or medical needs, with inclusive, student centred access to learning, as a SEND teaching assistant. Since October last year I worked as part of the Inclusion team, supporting the Healthcare team in Medical, later providing cover alongside my TA role.
I am now bringing my wonderful time and experience from my previous school into this new journey with the fabulous HSS community!
I have two sons at HSS, and as a parent chose HSS for their brilliant reputation and student focused values and ethos. One aspect stood out early on their journey – the dedication of the staff across the whole school.
Through my own experiences as a mother, I have become a proactive advocate for our young people accessing their education. Promoting a holistic approach to supporting their wellbeing, their health, and their medical needs, throughout their school journey. I very much look forward to bringing this same energy and support to my new role with you all at HSS.
