In this next High Storrs Blog, we have a brief introduction from each of our new recruits. They have each shared a little of their history and a few nuggets of other information. We have been pleased to welcome such a talented group of people to join our High Storrs staff this school year.
- Mr Stannard – Computer Science Teacher
I am an ECT who has joined High Storrs after working as a Developer and Analyst for 2 decades.
My industry experience allows me to help advise students on real world applications of technology and how it can be used in their potential careers.
I have taught Climbing and Kickboxing and really enjoy the experience of teaching. I am so happy to be at High Storrs and very impressed with the enthusiasm students show the subject.
- Mrs Marsh – Food and DT teacher
I have over 30 years teaching experience, starting my career in Manchester. Most recently I have been at Tapton School, where I held a similar post for over 10 years.
I bring a passion for my subject that has never diminished. I continue to be excited about the development of the Food and DT Curriculum, which has seen many changes throughout my teaching career, and bring that subject knowledge, skill and enthusiasm to my classroom to enable each of my students to reach their full potential.
I am so happy to join such a kind, forward thinking school community and I am eager to contribute to High Storr’s continued success by becoming a valued colleague, form tutor and classroom teacher.
- Miss Fox – Physics teacher
I am in my third year of teaching and have recently relocated from working in Doncaster.
I’m passionate about helping young people enjoy and achieve in science by making lessons engaging, supportive, and challenging.
I’m also a keen netball player and love being part of a team, so I’m looking forward to getting involved in the wider life of the school as well as the classroom.
- Miss Todd – Art teacher
This is my first full time teaching role and I’m really looking forward to getting to work at High Storrs. I’ll bring lots of passion for my subject as well as high expectations for all the students I teach, aiming to really push them to excel in my art lessons. I feel so privileged to start my teaching career in such an amazing and supportive department, and in such a great school.
- Mr Yates – Teaching Assistant
Since leaving High Storrs as a pupil in 2020, I have graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in History and have spent the two years following working in administration and travelling.
I will bring fun and positivity to High Storrs and will strive to promote the safe and inclusive environment that the school has successfully maintained for so many years.
I am delighted to be part of the High Storrs family again and am so excited to play a part in the growth of the great young people at the school, many of which I have already had the pleasure of meeting in my first two weeks!
- Mr Johnson – Teaching Assistant
This is my first experience of working in a school and I am very excited to be starting with HSS. I am very passionate about helping students of all abilities and I love to see them succeed. I believe that every student should be given the same chance to succeed, regardless of ability.
- Mrs Hewitt – Maths Teacher
I have been teaching for 10 years at Codsall Community High School just outside Wolverhampton. Me and my family have relocated as my husband is from Sheffield and he tempted me up here. When I started looking for jobs in Sheffield High Storrs was THE job I kept refreshing TES for and hoping would come up. It was the only high school in Sheffield I had stepped foot in due to being a family of Lego fans and attending the Lego shows here every year when visiting family but obviously it’s reputation as the best school in Sheffield was the main factor of wanting to work here. I am really excited to start my new role and really look forward to sharing all things maths with the wonderfully enthusiastic students here at High Storrs.
- Mrs Morrell – Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Teacher
I have been teaching for 16 years in schools in Sheffield, Leeds and Worksop. Most recently, I was Head of RE at Heritage High School in Derbyshire.
I am passionate about providing high-quality religion, philosophy and ethics lessons to all students, regardless of their prior experiences of religion. I aim to encourage high expectations, promote a positive learning culture, and build strong relationships with both students and colleagues. I am excited to join High Storrs School and the RPE department. I am looking forward to getting to helping the RPE grow and develop further.
- Miss Metcalfe – Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Teacher
I did my first training placement at High Storrs for my PGCE in 2020, so am very pleased to be back. I have been teaching RPE and German in Coventry for 4 years, and was so excited when the opportunity to work in the RPE department here arose, as well as thrilled to be back in Sheffield itself.
I hope to bring a bit of joy to High Storrs, especially within lessons and make a safe space for students to be themselves and have a bit of love for their learning in a subject that is often underappreciated. I am really looking forward to getting stuck into my new role and seeing where it takes me in my career progression, as well as meeting all sorts of lovely new staff and students alike in such a warm environment.
- Miss Bryan – PE Teacher
I have been working for 4 years (including my ITT year) as a PE teacher. I have recently left Netherthorpe School as a PE and Geography teacher. I am very passionate about my subject and I feel like I can add more versatility to High Storrs. I am very excited to join a great school and I can’t wait to meet more of you!
- Mrs Kenyon – Exams Team Leader
I’ve spent the past 3 years as an Exams Manager at Silverdale High School. When I found out that Mrs Storrs was retiring as the Exams Team Leader at High Storrs, I jumped at the chance to take over from her, although I am mindful that she will be a tough act to follow.
For me, this is a “return to where it all started” as, following completion of my PGCE, I spent 5 years as a Chemistry teacher at High Storrs. I have many fond memories of both staff and students from that time and am well aware of what a special school this is. I am looking forward to carrying on the great work that Mrs Storrs has done to ensure the smooth running of exams processes. I will be combining my experience as both a teacher and exams manager to maintain clear communication about exams information with students and ensure a fair and positive experience for all students involved in examinations.
- Ms Kerensa Hobbs – Teaching Assistant
I have been a supply teacher for last 18 months mainly in primary with some TA work and cover work in secondary as well as over 10 years supporting young people in non-academic activities.
I bring a passion for making a negative into a positive and supporting learners to believe in themselves and finding ways to inspire students to get excited about learning,
I feel excited about my new role and really enjoying getting to know students at the same time as feeling little overwhelmed as a new starter!
