This first Headteacher’s blog of the new school year is, once again, simply the two press releases we shared after A Level and GCSE results. We are so proud of our HSS students and their success.
Our A Level students received their results on Thursday 13th August –
High Storrs School Celebrates Outstanding A Level and BTEC Success in 2026
High Storrs School is delighted to celebrate another year of exceptional A Level and Level 3 BTEC results, recognising the hard work, determination and achievements of students across the Sixth Form.
This year’s results reflect the commitment of our students, staff and families, with young people achieving success across a diverse range of subjects. Students have secured places at leading universities, higher and further education providers, specialist colleges, apprenticeships and employment, taking the next step towards exciting futures.
Headteacher, Claire Tasker, said:
“We are immensely proud of every one of our students. Their success represents much more than examination grades. It reflects the confidence they have developed, the challenges they have overcome and the contributions they have made to our school community. Today’s results are a testament to the talent of our students and the unwavering support provided by staff, families and carers.”
Director of Sixth Form, Laura Newell, added:
“We are thrilled to see our students achieve such outstanding outcomes. Whether progressing to university, apprenticeships, further training or employment, they leave us equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed.
At High Storrs, we are committed to providing a broad and enriching Sixth Form experience. Alongside academic excellence, we place great importance on pastoral care, personal development and preparing students for life beyond school.”
Among the many highlights this year were excellent outcomes across the curriculum, including:
- English Literature – where 88% of students achieved A-B grades and 50% achieved A-A
- Dance – where 82% of students achieved A*-B grades and 64% achieved A*-A.
- Maths – where 74% of students achieved A*-B grades, including 58% awarded A*-A.
Several other subjects also celebrated exceptional achievement, with 40% or more grades at A and A* in EPQ, Geography, Art, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Physics, Modern History, Music Technology and BTEC Sport.
Whilst we celebrate our highest grades, we are equally proud of the achievements of every student. As an inclusive Sixth Form, we are committed to ensuring that all learners make strong progress from their individual starting points.
High Storrs School extends its heartfelt congratulations to all students receiving results today and thanks families and staff for their continued support. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this talented group of young people will have on the communities, workplaces and institutions they join in the years ahead.

Our GCSE students received their results on Thursday 20th August –
High Storrs Celebrates Outstanding GCSE Results with Exceptional Success Across the Curriculum
High Storrs School students are celebrating another year of excellent GCSE results, with strong outcomes across a wide range of subjects.
More than 50% of students achieved the highest grades of 8 or 9 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, while almost one third secured top grades of grades 8 or 9 in many subjects including Mathematics, Food, Business Studies, CNAT Sport, Geography, Latin, Music, Computing and Psychology.
The school’s large and diverse cohort also achieved strong outcomes in the key measures of English and Mathematics. Overall, 87% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in both subjects, while nearly three quarters secured a grade 5 or above.
Headteacher Claire Tasker said:
“We are absolutely delighted with these results and incredibly proud of our students. High Storrs is a large and inclusive school, and these outcomes reflect the hard work and commitment shown by our young people throughout their time with us.
What makes today particularly special is that these achievements have been secured by a group of students who have given so much to our school community. They are thoughtful, caring and ambitious young people, and they deserve to celebrate everything they have achieved.
I would also like to thank our staff and families. These results are a testament to a community working together to help every young person succeed.”
Tom Highnett, Director of Key Stage 4, added:
“We are so proud to celebrate the achievements of this lovely, kind, hardworking and talented year group. They have approached their studies with determination and maturity, whilst contributing enormously to the wider life of the school. It has been a privilege to support them, and we are thrilled to see their efforts rewarded today.”
As a final note, it is always important to note that this data is attainment data rather than progress data. And that is the case with all the data that we read in the various posts and news headlines. This is particularly pertinent for A Level outcomes. A Levels are challenging and there must be entry requirements to ensure students will be able to cope with demands. But it is virtually impossible to directly compare the results of a school (%A-B, %A* etc) that has a grade 7 as an entry requirement for all A Levels with a school that has grade 5s and up like HSS.
