Aims and Vision
We believe in unlocking potential for every student to learn, succeed and thrive. Our Careers provision raises aspirations and supports students to develop their academic, social and employability skills needed for lifelong success in a diverse and changing world.
Our vision is to increase the opportunities our students have of securing and enjoying quality, paid employment as adults.
Careers education underpins much of our teaching at High Storrs. Our careers curriculum is planned by using the nationally recognised Gatsby Benchmarks and the Career Development Institute’s Career Development Framework. These are criteria provided to schools to help them in the delivery of careers education and are a measure which could be used by Ofsted when carrying out an inspection.
The impact of our careers programme is measured and assessed through a combination of the Future Skills Questionnaire, analysis of post-16 and post-18 progression data, and structured feedback.

Parents/Carers
Parents and carers are the most influential factor in students’ decisions about the future. Your support and encouragement influence their choices, and the guidance you provide will be invaluable to their eventual achievements and career pathways. There are some very simple and practical steps you can take to support your child:
- Talk to them about their current educational attainment and estimated grades and encourage them to aim high (the skills shortages of the future will be in higher level jobs)
- Discuss where they want to be and research how to get there (there are links below to some great resources)
- Encourage them to get the advice and experiences they need to help them achieve their goals
It can be challenging trying to help your child to navigate their post 16 and post 18 options. A lot may have changed since you left school and you might not always feel best placed to support your child when they ask ‘What should I do next?’. That’s why Parents advice and resources | Skills for Careers have put together advice and resources to helping your child with their career and education decisions.
High Storrs uses UNIFROG as our careers platform. All students from Y7-Y13 have logins to Unifrog. We are delighted to share that parents and carers can now use our careers platform Unifrog. This will enable you to support your child in exploring careers options, including Post 16 and Post 18 education, employment and apprenticeships.
Unifrog is a very useful tool for students and staff, and we hope that you find it helpful too. For students, Unifrog aims to support them to make informed decisions about their futures. Teachers, and more importantly parents, are also integral to this.

MODERN WORK EXPERIENCE (Gatsby Benchmark 6: Experience of Workplaces)
2026 dates
Year 12 Work Experience Week: 9th-13th March 2026
Year 10 Work Experience Week: 29th June-3rd July 2026
Y10 and Y11 Careers Information Advice and Guidance
In Y11 students make choices about their next steps and future career path. There is a lot to think about, and some decisions must be made quite early (e.g. by the end of December of Y11).
Students will have at least one Careers Information, Advice and Guidance session (Careers Interview) from February in Y10 to December Y11 where they will be supported to:
- Learn all your Post 16 options available.
- Explore ideas and work out some goals.
- Check what qualifications, skills and qualities are needed.
- Pinpoint anything standing in the way of goals and look at solutions.
Guidance is impartial and will help students decide which option suits them best.
Parents/Carers are welcome to attend the guidance session.
After each guidance session the student’s detailed action plan is uploaded onto their Unifrog Page, the student can share this with their home network to gain further support in making their post 16 decisions.
