There’s something magical about Sports Day. It’s more than just a day of jumps, throws, races and relays—it’s a celebration of teamwork, determination, and performance. This year’s Sports Day, held on Tuesday 15th July at the prestigious English Institute of Sport, was no exception. From the first whistle to the final cheer, the venue was alive with energy, chanting, and unforgettable moments.
The event brought together students from Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9, each group bringing their own unique energy and enthusiasm to the EIS. Whether it was their first Sports Day or their third, every student gave it their all, creating a vibrant atmosphere of friendly competition and shared celebration.
At the heart of the day was the school’s proud House system, with students representing Lyceum, Montgomery, Merlin, and Crucible. Each House brought its own spirit, chants, and colours, transforming the stadium into a sea of pride and passion. The friendly rivalry between Houses added an extra layer of excitement to every event, with teammates cheering each other on and House staff passionately led rallying their groups with infectious enthusiasm and passion!
The day begins with students travelling by car, bus, coach and tram. Making the journey is just part of the experience. Students arrive in numbers and make their way to their House desk to be registered. Here they are given their competition stickers which they wear with pride as they take their place in the stand. The Houses proudly waved their flags, faces were painted in team colours, and chanting slogans echoed through the stadium. From the classic jumps to the thrilling 4×100 relay and tug of war, every event was a showcase of grit, determination and sportsmanship. Every student played their part in making today incredible!
The cheerleading club performed a halfway show. What a treat! Something we have never had before at a Sports Day. The students watched and cheered in support from the stands. Well done girls! You rose to the challenge and smashed it!
One of the highlights was the teachers and 6th form student 4x100m relay race. This had the crowd roaring with support. Students cheering, whistling, willing their teachers to bring it home for their retrospective House. Spoiler alert: Montgomery won…pipping Lyceum to the finish.
Sports Day is not just about physical prowess. It’s about resilience—students who stumbled but got back up, teammates who cheered the loudest for the last runner, and the quiet pride of those who gave it their all, regardless of the outcome.
As the final scores were tallied and the winners of the Interhouse trophies and Sports Day were announced, the stadium erupted in cheers. And here is what you’ve been waiting for…

But beyond the trophies, the real victory lay in the memories made, the friendships strengthened, and the values reinforced—teamwork, perseverance, and joy in participation.
Finally, a day like this can never take place without the team behind it all. I would like to give a formal thank you firstly to the PE team. Without their time and effort organising, liaising, designing, chasing and leading Sports Day just would not happen. Secondly, I would also like to thank all the staff for supporting the day and executing your roles with commitment. Without you, it is not possible for the day to run as smoothly as it did and to give our young people the experience that we hope.
