Senior Maths Challenge

Mr Wells, Maths Teacher

Belated and huge congratulations to our many successful Sixth Form contestants in the Senior Maths Challenge. Between them, they returned 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 4 Bronze certificates. Only the top 10% of contestants nationally are awarded Gold, followed by the next 20% Silver and the next 30% Bronze so this represents a great achievement. The gold certificate winners (Tom Cocker, Spike Thompson, Ryan Elliot, Billy Wyton and Ben Thornley) also went on to represent the school at the Senior Kangaroo Challenge. The Kangaroo Challenge is taken by some of the brightest young mathematicians from around the world. Ryan was in the top 25% of entrants and achieved a Merit.

The school also entered a team at the Senior Team Maths Challenge at Sheffield University where they successfully completed several extremely challenging rounds to place 6th (and not at all far from 3rd) of around 20 local schools.

Enormous thanks to the school PTA who fund the entrance fees, as well as the staff who helped to invigilate the challenges. A real team effort and a great set of outcomes for our talented sixth formers.
