Merry Christmas... and relax!

Claire Tasker, Headteacher

I am struggling to remember a time when we have broken up at the end of the first term as late as 22nd December! Despite this the staff remain (mostly) chipper and focused! I cannot begin to tell you what a joy it is to work with the staff of High Storrs School. We have recently been auditing our extracurricular offer and there are now over well over 50 clubs and activities. And if we look at the past three weeks there has been an array of concerts (two), performances (two), sporting fixtures, fundraising events (two days), a Christmas Fayre and a Celebration Event. And that is the ‘extras’ … I also have the privilege of observing all the teaching staff and enjoying their classroom practice, subject knowledge and passion for working with young people.

Obviously I also get to see all your children in lessons too. They are talented, enthusiastic, open and fun. Moreover, I see them all as they come to and from school, move around the building and in social times. High expectations and trust in young people are key features of High Storrs School. We, of course, have clear rules to ensure a calm and focused community. This term we have had a weekly reminder of our each of our key rules and those who do not behave as they should face consequences. But we have also allowed students more freedoms with our ‘phone zones’. It is a careful balance and my experience of High Storrs students is that they are a delight – and this is the most decent and happy school community I have experienced.

I hope all that decency and happiness continues into your homes for the holiday! I hope you enjoy family time and a rest – I know the staff will!
