A Fun Night with the Odd Question or Two
What was the original meaning of the word ‘Quiz’?
a. To mock or make fun of.
b. A person who is a bit odd.
c. To question or interrogate.
So it was, with such burning questions (but not necessarily answers) in our minds, that we set off to the annual PTA quiz night - 50 or so of the finest minds High Storrs had to offer on that cold November night.
It wasn’t just the quiz that drew us out of the comfort of our homes; Porter Pizza were providing the refreshments and that’s always worth the extra journey. And there was a raffle which, I had it on good authority, was full of top prizes from local businesses.
Quiz Master O’Connor had a series of fiendish and not so fiendish questions lined up to test all ages and so the Year 7s put parents in their place over answers to questions that they didn’t understand and the 6th form could show their teachers just who was cleverest. As a Geography teacher I was embarrassed not to know the relative height of Annapurna (I got it right but, *whisper* it was a guess) but genuinely impressed with myself at knowing that George Washington had false teeth.
In the end, the teachers took the prize (just) and promptly donated it back to the PTA to bolster their funds.
Huge thanks to everyone involved for supporting the event and especially to those businesses who contributed to it (below). We are proud to be one of the few secondary schools to have an active PTA and grateful for all members of the school community who turn up, take part and, hopefully, had a good time too.
Many thanks to the local, independent shops and businesses that supported the event by donating prizes, please continue to support them in return.
