BOOKING SLIP FOR GRAND AUCTION OF PROMISES

What is an Auction of Promises?
In 2007 the school and the PTA ran an Auction of Promises and raised nearly £5000 for a variety of school charities, including a school in Sri Lanka damaged by the tsunami, and PTA funds. The auction had three main parts;
a) an auction of promises from individuals and organisations to provide a service of some kind and of larger or special items donated to the auction
b) a silent auction where open bids were placed in writing against individual items or vouchers up to a time limit
c) a big raffle
The PTA was responsible for canvassing local shops and businesses either through contacts or by knocking on doors. This was coordinated through the PTA wiki, some pages of which are shown below, so we didn’t duplicate effort. We did the publicity outside of school, ran the bar and soft refreshments, meeting and greeting and helped do the power point presentation used by the auctioneers. The teachers came up with a wide range of the most popular auction promises and these are really what made the evening – things that money can’t buy. All these were published in an auction book and all local businesses were credited and had their logo or details displayed.
We are holding our Grand Auction of Promises this year at 7pm on 26 March 2010 in the School Library. The proceeds from this event will be used to support the Help for Haiti campaign and our own school fund for the benefit of pupils. Our first Charity Auction of Promises attracted fantastic support from staff, local businesses, a capacity audience on the night and a substantial amount of press coverage.
We are asking parents, staff and local businesses for “promises” of goods, services, vouchers…anything which we can auction off or place in the raffle. Your business will be advertised in promotional literature for the event on the school website at www.highstorrs.co.uk and in e-list communications to parents about the event as well as our school newsletter which has a circulation of around 3000 in S11 and S7. In addition you will receive a certificate of thanks which can be displayed in your office or shop.
Acknowledgement of your support will bring your business to the attention of thousands of local people who will appreciate your support. You will also know you will have made a significant contribution to improving people’s lives. We do hope that you will be able to help us.
